Transcript translation

A transcript (statement of grades) shows courses taken, credits and grades. It is the second core document requested alongside the diploma for equivalency and overseas applications.

Grading systems differ between countries. Grades, credit information and averages are retained as they appear in the source document; no conversion or interpretation is made. Any section explaining the grading scale is also reproduced, as the assessing institution needs this information.

Which institutions request this document?

  • Council of Higher Education (YÖK) — for equivalency assessment
  • Foreign universities — for applications and course exemption procedures
  • Scholarship organizations
  • Employers — for verifying academic history

Certification requirements

Is notarisation required?

Notarized translations are requested for equivalency applications.

Is an apostille required?

It follows the same process as the diploma; the apostille is obtained from the provincial or district governor's office.

There is no universal rule. The institution requesting the document determines its certification requirements. The information above describes common practice. Tell us which institution you are applying to and we will help clarify the required certification.

Preparing your document

  • Send every page in full; transcripts are often multi-page documents
  • Include the page explaining the grading scale, if there is one
  • Ask whether the institution requires an interim transcript or a final graduation transcript
  • The number of pages directly affects the price; you must provide every page for a quote

Frequently asked questions

Will my grades be converted to the destination country's system?

No. Grade conversion is outside the scope of translation and would make the document misleading. The relevant institution performs the equivalency assessment.

How are course names translated?

Course names are given using established academic equivalents in the target language; where no equivalent exists, an explanatory expression is used and the original name is retained in parentheses.
