Court judgment translation

Court judgment translations are used in recognition and enforcement proceedings, enforcement actions, inheritance matters and custody cases. A reasoned judgment is usually a long and technical text.

Legal terms are rendered using their equivalents in the target legal system; where an institution has no equivalent, explanatory wording is preferred and the source term is retained in parentheses. The file number, case and judgment numbers, and certificate of finality are translated in full.

Which institutions request this document?

  • Insurance companies — in compensation files

Certification requirements

Is notarisation required?

Requiring notarized translations in judicial files is established practice; it is advisable to confirm the form of certification with the relevant court.

Is an apostille required?

It is a judicial document. The apostille is obtained from the Presidency of the Justice Commission for First Instance Courts of the Judiciary in centers with a high criminal court.

There is no universal rule. The institution requesting the document determines its certification requirements. The information above describes common practice. Tell us which institution you are applying to and we will help clarify the required certification.

  • Obtain a copy bearing a certificate of finality
