Service of process documents are official notifications from judicial or administrative authorities to the parties. For service on a party abroad, the documents are required to be translated into the language of the destination country.
International service of process is conducted under conventions between the countries involved, and formal requirements are strict. The record of service, dates and authority details must be translated in full.

Certification requirements
Notarized translations are required in official service of process files.
No additional apostille is required for service conducted through central authorities under the 1965 Hague Service Convention; Article 3 of the Convention provides that legalization or another equivalent formality is not required. If an apostille is needed for judicial documents transmitted outside the Convention's procedures, it is obtained from the presidency of the justice commission in centers with a high criminal court.
There is no universal rule. The institution requesting the document determines its certification requirements. The information above describes common practice. Tell us which institution you are applying to and we will help clarify the required certification.
