A criminal record certificate shows whether a person has any criminal convictions. It is standard paperwork for visa, residence permit, work permit and citizenship applications.
The document can be obtained through e-Devlet (the e-Government portal), and an electronic apostille (e-Apostille) can be applied in some cases. As this document contains sensitive personal data under Law No. 6698, it is processed solely for translation purposes when sent to us.
Which institutions request this document?
- Consulates — for visa and citizenship applications
- Immigration authorities — for residence and work permit procedures
- Foreign employers — as part of employment paperwork
- Professional associations — for license and authorization certificate applications
Certification requirements
Notarized translations are required for visa and residence permit applications.
A criminal record certificate is a judicial document. A physical apostille is obtained from the Presidency of the Justice Commission for First Instance Courts of the Judiciary in centers with a high criminal court. An e-Apostille can also be obtained through PTT via e-Devlet, with a fee charged per document for this service.
There is no universal rule. The institution requesting the document determines its certification requirements. The information above describes common practice. Tell us which institution you are applying to and we will help clarify the required certification.
Preparing your document
- You can obtain the document through e-Devlet or from a courthouse
- Ask the institution whether it also requires an archived criminal record certificate — this is a separate document
- Institutions generally require a document issued within the last three months
- The document should be obtained for the country where it will be used; country information is entered when applying for an e-Apostille
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a criminal record certificate and an archived criminal record certificate?
A criminal record certificate shows convictions that have not been expunged, while an archived record also shows records that have been removed. Some institutions request the archived record; you should find out in advance which one is required.
My record is clear; do I still need to obtain a certificate?
Yes. If there are no records, the certificate is issued with the statement "no record," and this certificate is required for applications.
Is there a charge for an e-Apostille?
e-Apostille is a service provided by PTT, and a service fee is charged per document. No fee is charged for apostille applications made in person to provincial or district governor's offices.
