Diploma translation into English translation

English diploma translations serve three major destinations with different rules: the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada. The same translation file can be used in all three, but different organizations handle the assessments.

In the United Kingdom, the equivalence of foreign qualifications is shown by a Statement of Comparability issued by UK ENIC (formerly NARIC). Certified translations are required for documents not in English: a translation bearing the translator's stamp and signature declaring its accuracy is accepted.

In the United States and Canada, assessments are carried out by private credential evaluation organizations such as WES (World Education Services). These organizations may request some documents directly from the university; which documents must be sent by whom depends on the organization's own rules.

Which institutions request this document?

  • UK ENIC — for Statement of Comparability applications
  • WES and similar credential evaluation organizations — for applications in the United States and Canada
  • Universities — for postgraduate admission procedures
  • Employers and licensing bodies — for professional registration procedures

Certification requirements

Is notarisation required?

In the United Kingdom and North America, notarization is often not required; a certified translation carrying the translator's declaration is considered sufficient. Notarization may be required for official procedures conducted through Türkiye.

Is an apostille required?

Most education and employment applications to the United Kingdom, United States and Canada do not require an apostille on a diploma; evaluation organizations use their own verification channels. If an apostille is required for citizenship or certain official registration procedures, it is obtained from a provincial or district governor's office.

There is no universal rule. The institution requesting the document determines its certification requirements. The information above describes common practice. Tell us which institution you are applying to and we will help clarify the required certification.

Preparing your document

  • Clarify your destination: UK ENIC, WES or a direct university application?
  • Read the evaluation organization's document submission rules; some documents are requested directly from your university
  • Have the diploma and transcript translated together
  • Share any translation previously submitted abroad to preserve consistent spelling of names and terminology

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply to UK ENIC without notarizing the translation?

UK ENIC requires certified translations carrying the translator's declaration for documents not in English; it does not require notarization. Our translation, including the sworn translator's stamp and declaration, is prepared to meet this requirement.

Why does WES request the transcript directly from the university?

Credential evaluation organizations accept some documents only from the issuing institution to prevent fraud. This does not mean a translation is unnecessary; translations are still required for documents not in English.

Can one translation be used for both the United Kingdom and the United States?

Yes; the translation is the same. The difference lies in the document submission rules of the evaluation organization.
