A chamber registration certificate shows that a business is registered with a chamber of commerce or industry. Its translation is required as part of the company file for participation in overseas tenders, registration with foreign companies, opening bank accounts and distribution applications.
The document is usually submitted in the same file as the certificate of business activity, authorized signature circular and trade registry gazette; company names, addresses and activity descriptions appearing in the four documents must be translated identically. Inconsistent translation can give the foreign institution the impression that they concern different companies.
Which institutions request this document?
- Foreign tendering authorities
- Foreign banks and financial institutions
- Business partners and distributors
- Foreign trade registries — for branch and representative office registrations
Certification requirements
Notarized translations are common for official applications; a sworn translation is sufficient for sharing information.
It may be required for official procedures abroad; for apostilles on chamber documents, both the requesting institution's requirement and the apostille authority's acceptance are checked.
There is no universal rule. The institution requesting the document determines its certification requirements. The information above describes common practice. Tell us which institution you are applying to and we will help clarify the required certification.
Preparing your document
- Obtain a recently issued document; institutions usually require current registration
- Send it with the other documents in the company file so the company name and address are translated consistently
- If a NACE activity code appears on the document, point it out; the activity description is translated to match the code
Frequently asked questions
Are a certificate of business activity and a chamber registration certificate the same document?
They serve similar purposes but are separate documents; the institution's list determines which is required. If both are required, they are translated together and terminology is established consistently.
Is the company name translated?
The name is preserved as a proper name; only the company type (such as Limited Şirketi) may be explained in parentheses using its established equivalent in the target language. The same format is used in all documents.
