Multilingual civil status extracts (Forms A, B, C) translation

Form A (birth), Form B (marriage) and Form C (death) are international civil status extracts issued in multiple languages under the 1976 Vienna Convention. Türkiye is a party to this Convention, and civil registry directorates issue these documents.

The distinguishing feature of these documents is that, as a rule, they are accepted in countries party to the Convention without translation and in most cases without additional legalization — obtaining the correct document can therefore eliminate translation costs entirely. Translation is needed for applications to countries that are not parties to the Convention or where an authority does not recognize the form and requires a standard extract. Our service on this page covers both aspects: we tell you whether a multilingual form is sufficient for your file and prepare the translation if needed.

Which institutions request this document?

  • Authorities in countries not party to the Convention — together with a translation
  • Institutions that do not recognize the form and require a standard document
  • Foreign courts and notaries — for a complete file
  • Institutions in Türkiye — sometimes for multilingual forms obtained abroad

Certification requirements

Is notarisation required?

No translation is needed in countries where the form is accepted; where a translation is needed, it is prepared as a sworn or notarized translation according to the authority's requirements.

Is an apostille required?

As a rule, it is not required between countries party to the Convention; if sent to a non-party country, the standard apostille chain applies.

There is no universal rule. The institution requesting the document determines its certification requirements. The information above describes common practice. Tell us which institution you are applying to and we will help clarify the required certification.

Preparing your document

  • Tell us whether your destination country is a party to the Convention; we can make the initial check together
  • Make sure all fields are completed and the stamps are legible
  • If the authority requires a standard civil registry extract, that document must be used instead of the multilingual form

Frequently asked questions

I obtained a multilingual form, but they still requested a translation. Why?

There are two common reasons: the country is not a party to the Convention, or the institution requires a standard document in the country's language under its internal rules. In that case, a sworn translation of the document or standard civil registry extract is prepared.

Which countries accept these documents?

As the list of countries party to the Convention can change, the current list should be checked when applying; asking the receiving authority directly is the most reliable method. If you send your file, we can check together.
