UK institutions require a "certified translation" — a requirement that differs from notarisation and is often simpler.

Document translation for the UK: visas, UK ENIC, and certified translations

What does certified translation mean?

In UK practice, a certified translation bears a signed and stamped certification by the translator or translation agency declaring that the translation is complete and corresponds to the original. The certification includes the translator's details and the date.

This requirement differs from notarisation in Türkiye, and most UK procedures do not require a notarial stage. Our translations are prepared in the declaration format required by UKVI, the visa authority.

Visa applications

UK visa applications require a certified translation of every document that is not in English. This includes bank statements, population registry documents, and employer letters.

UKVI rules require translations to contain a declaration that the translation corresponds to the original, the translation date, and the translator's name, signature, and contact details. Translations lacking these elements are treated as incomplete documentation.

UK ENIC assessment

A Statement of Comparability from UK ENIC shows the UK equivalent of your diploma. Documents not in English are submitted with certified translations.

We explain the process on our English diploma translation page; check the employer's or university's application notice to see whether an ENIC assessment is required.

Is an apostille required?

Most UK procedures — visas, university applications, and ENIC assessments — do not require apostilles on Turkish documents; a certified translation is sufficient. Apostilles mainly arise in civil status registrations and certain legal procedures.

The UK is party to the Hague Convention; when an apostille is required for an administrative document, it is obtained from a governor's office or district governor's office.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for a UK visa without notarisation?

Yes; UKVI requires a certified translation and does not require notarisation. Your translations are delivered with the necessary declaration and details.

Can I use an old translation for a new application?

It can be used if the document's contents have not changed. However, for documents that must be current, such as bank statements, both the document and translation must be recently dated.

This content is for information purposes. The documents and procedures required by institutions may change; we recommend confirming the requirements with the relevant institution before applying.
