Russian notarial practice
Most Russian authorities require the translation of a foreign document to be notarised in Russia: the Russian notary certifies the signature of a translator registered with that notary. This is not directly equivalent to a notarised translation in Türkiye.
The practical process therefore has two stages: the apostilled original is prepared in Türkiye, while the translation and Russian notarisation are usually completed in Russia. The Russian translations we prepare in Türkiye are for consular procedures, use outside Russia and cases accepted by some institutions; we ask about the destination institution's requirements at the outset.
Apostilles in both directions
Russia is a party to the Hague Convention. Turkish documents are sent to Russia with an apostille; documents issued in Russia, such as diplomas, birth records and criminal record certificates, receive their apostille from the competent authority in Russia. A foreign document cannot be endorsed in Türkiye.
Our separate page contains a detailed guide to equivalence in Türkiye for diplomas issued in Russia.
Cyrillic spelling rules
The Cyrillic spelling of first names and surnames is a hidden trap in administrative procedures: the same name can be transliterated in several ways. In our translations, the Latin spelling is matched to the passport, a single consistent Cyrillic equivalent is used, and consistency with your previous documents is checked.
If you have older documents issued in Russia, such as marriage or educational documents, send us the spelling used there; we preserve the same form in new translations.
Common procedures
- Marriage and family records: apostilled documents for ZAGS procedures
- Employment and education: invitation annexes, diplomas and criminal record certificates
- Trade: contracts, signature documents and customs documentation
- From Russia to Türkiye: notarised Turkish translations of birth/marriage records and diplomas
Frequently asked questions
Will a Russian translation prepared in Türkiye be valid in Russia?
It depends on the institution; many authorities require notarisation within Russia. In that case, you need to obtain the apostilled original and have its translation prepared in Russia. We can provide information about preparing the translation required by the institution; we do not provide apostille application or procedure follow-up services.
What is required for a Turkish translation of my Russian documents?
The original document with an apostille obtained in Russia and a legible scan are sufficient; translation and notarisation are completed in Türkiye.
This content is for information purposes. The documents and procedures required by institutions may change; we recommend confirming the requirements with the relevant institution before applying.
