What is a Dichiarazione di Valore?
A Dichiarazione di Valore (Declaration of Value) is a document issued by an Italian consulate showing the standing of an educational qualification obtained in Türkiye within the Italian system. It is required for university enrolment, qualification recognition, and certain job applications in Italy.
The consulate issues the document following its own assessment, and the application file must be complete.
What does the file contain?
- Original diploma bearing an apostille
- Notarised Italian translation of the diploma — with an apostille on that translation
- Apostilled transcript and its notarised Italian translation
- The consulate's application form and appointment record
Please note: this file requires an apostille not only on the original document but also on the notarised translation. The translation is apostilled through its notarisation at a governor's office or district governor's office.
Order of the process
- Obtain the diploma and transcript and have the originals apostilled
- Have the documents translated into Italian and complete notarisation
- Obtain apostilles on the notarised translations
- Book a consular appointment and submit the file
Consular processing fees vary according to the purpose of the application and are published in the consulate's current fee schedule.
University pre-enrolment
University enrolment in Italy is largely managed through the Universitaly portal. The portal application and Dichiarazione di Valore process should be planned together; some universities also accept a CIMEA assessment.
The university's admissions page specifies which route is accepted; the two routes have different requirements.
Citizenship and civil status procedures
Italian citizenship and marriage registration files require apostilled population registry extracts, birth certificates, and marriage certificates with notarised Italian translations. Apostilles on the translations are also requested for civil status documents.
Consular appointment waiting times vary; schedule preparation so that the complete file is ready before the appointment.
Frequently asked questions
Can I go to the consulate without an apostille on the translation?
Consulates also require the translation apostille in Dichiarazione di Valore files; incomplete files are not processed. Check the current document list on the consulate's official website.
Are CIMEA and the Dichiarazione di Valore the same thing?
No. CIMEA is a separate assessment provided by the Italian qualification recognition centre, and some universities accept it instead of a Declaration of Value. Your university determines which document is required.
