What is an e-Apostille?
An e-Apostille is an apostille issued electronically without a physical application. The authentication details on the document allow the apostille's authenticity to be checked online.
An electronically issued apostille has the same legal effect as a physical apostille.
Which documents are covered?
The scope of the system is expanding over time. Criminal record certificates are among the main documents eligible for an e-Apostille. Certain court documents have also been included.
You can check whether your document is covered by searching for the relevant service on e-Devlet. Documents outside the scheme require a physical application.
How can you obtain one?
The general procedure is as follows:
- Sign in to the e-Devlet e-Government portal using identity authentication
- Search for and open the relevant apostille service
- Select the document to be apostilled
- Enter the country where the document will be used
- Download the issued document bearing the apostille
The e-Apostille service is operated by PTT and carries a service charge per document. No fee is charged for the apostille when applying in person to a governor's office or district governor's office.
Translating a document bearing an e-Apostille
An electronic apostille is an endorsement added to the document; it is also reproduced in the translation. The verification code and link information are preserved.
Before submitting the document to an institution abroad, it is advisable to confirm that it accepts electronic apostilles. Practices can vary between countries.
When is a physical apostille required?
If your document is not covered by the e-Apostille scheme, the apostille is obtained physically:
- For administrative documents: the governor's office in provinces and the district governor's office in districts
- For judicial documents: the Justice Commission for Courts of First Instance in centres with a high criminal court
No fee is charged for the apostille in these in-person applications.
