What is NAATI?
NAATI (National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters) is Australia's national translator certification body. In official procedures within Australia, "certified translation" in practice means a translation by a NAATI-certified translator, delivered with that translator's NAATI number and stamp.
Sworn translator status in Türkiye is not automatically considered equivalent to NAATI certification; this difference should be understood from the start when planning a file.
Flexibility for applications from abroad
For visa applications to the Department of Home Affairs, a defined route exists for translations prepared outside Australia: translations bearing a declaration containing the translator's name, contact details, qualifications, and experience may be accepted.
We prepare translations for visa files in this declaration format. For documents to be used within Australia or where the institution explicitly requires NAATI, the translation must be completed by a NAATI-certified translator; confirm the institution's requirements before translation begins. You need to obtain the original documents and, where necessary, apply to the competent authority for an apostille. We do not provide apostille application or procedure follow-up services.
Which documents are most relevant?
- Visa files: birth and marriage records, criminal record certificates, and financial documents
- Skills assessment: diploma, transcript, and work experience letters — assessments are carried out by professional bodies, such as EA for engineering and CPA for accounting
- Driving licence: states require a NAATI translation
- Student applications: educational documents and evidence of financial means
Australia is party to the Hague Convention; when apostilles on original documents are requested, they are obtained from a governor's office or district governor's office.
A note on timing
Skills assessment bodies' procedures are separate from visa schedules and often take longer. For applications requiring a professional assessment, planning translation first according to that body's document checklist reduces the risk of translating the same document in two formats.
Frequently asked questions
Can I obtain a NAATI translation from Türkiye?
NAATI certification belongs to the individual translator and is uncommon in Türkiye. If your institution explicitly requires NAATI, the translation must be prepared by a translator holding that certification; our translations in declaration format can be used for visa files.
Which certification is required for a skills assessment?
It depends on the organisation: some require a translation with a translator's declaration, while others require certified copies. If you tell us the assessment organisation's name, we arrange the format accordingly.
